Cloud Control

Cloud Control, crowd control, what’s the difference? Well, one involves managing the effective utilization of your cloud based IT resources, and the other, well, has to do with controlling a crowd. Without adequate tools at your disposal, both could get unruly or even downright nasty.

With Cloud Control, the issue really is being able to visualize your capacity, performance and capability as well or better than you would expect to in your current IT environments. As we move more workloads into cloud environments (public, hybrid or private), there is the risk of lost visibility. You might lose visibility to your usable vs. wasted capacity, your performance characteristics, policy, governance, availability and more.

Of course, you need to know the requirements for managing your new environment in advance too, and put the right people, process and technology in place to meet them.

The Cloud Control topic is an important one, and I recently contributed to an article by Christian Perry of PC Today that was published in this month’s edition of the magazine (digital and print). If you’re serious about cloud and about your ability to manage it effectively, then you should read Christian’s article. Enjoy!
